Eligibility Details for CDS Examination
Nationality
A candidate must be:
- A citizen of India, or
- A subject of Nepal, or
- A subject of Bhutan, or
- A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia) or from Vietnam, with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Candidates from categories (b), (c), (d), and (e) must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.
Age Limit
- For IMA: Unmarried male candidates aged 19 to 24 years.
- For Indian Naval Academy: Unmarried male candidates aged 19 to 22 years.
- For Air Force Academy: Unmarried male candidates aged 19 to 23 years.
- For Officer’s Training Academy (SSC Course for Men): Male candidates (married or unmarried) aged 19 to 25 years.
- For Officer’s Training Academy (SSC Women Non-Technical Course): Unmarried women, issueless widows, and issueless divorcees (with divorce documents) aged 19 to 25 years.
Note: Male divorcee/widower candidates cannot be considered unmarried for admission to IMA/INA/AFA courses and are therefore ineligible.
Educational Qualification
- For I.M.A. and Officer’s Training Academy: Degree from a recognized university or equivalent.
- For Indian Naval Academy: Degree in Engineering from a recognized university/institution.
- For Air Force Academy: Degree from a recognized university (with Physics and Mathematics at the 10+2 level) or a Bachelor’s degree.
Candidates studying in the final year of their degree course may also apply, provided they have not yet passed their final examination.
Physical Standards
Candidates must meet the physical fitness standards required for admission to the Combined Defence Services Examination.
